Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil - It has to be the Best

Rocky World Series Road Thus Farr

With the series entering its final stages, the East Coast Pipeline racing team finds itself sitting third on the points table with one win in hand and a points deficit that whilst mathematically possible is pretty much unsurmountable.

The harsh reality of the World Series Sprintcars championship is if you drop a round and your rivals continue to make feature races your quest for the ultimate prize will be fruitless.

The Speedweek mini-series more often than not produces the series defining moment and this year proved to be the breaking point of the championship for team pilot Robbie Farr.

The opening rounds of Speedweek went to plan with three podiums and a seventh at Mt.Gambier’s Borderline Speedway which by all accounts was destined to be a second placed finish at worst before contact whilst closing on leader Jason Johnson caused a half spin mid race.

Farr found himself sitting less than a handful of points in arrears of series leader Brooke Tatnell as they journeyed to Geelong’s Avalon Raceway for the penultimate round of the Speedweek series.

Farr has claimed victory in both the two years previously and any sort of replica performance would have seen the team celebrate the dawning of the new year with some real impetus.

This year however the tight Avalon venue has all but snuffed any chance the team had of claiming the elusive series championship as Robbie crashed out in the B-Main and failed to make the transfer to the feature event. Not only did he miss the transfer, but the DNF in the B-Main virtually lost the team two full feature race points in one foul swoop!

“That night was devastating for us.” Explained Farr.

“We have been doing this long enough now to know that that was the end of our World Series championship right there.”

“The worst part is the reason to why we qualified so bad and ran so poorly in our heats is still a mystery to us.”

“We are normally very good at Avalon and did nothing different to any other time!”

One victory, five podium finishes and every finish inside of the top ten outside of the fateful night at Avalon illustrates another solid campaign yet again.

“Up until Avalon I was really happy.”

“We have had a pretty good year, and have been super fast.”

Whilst one door closes, another opens and for Farr and the East Coast Pipeline the closed door is the burden of racing for a points championship.

“I think it’s only natural that you start thinking about the championship when you are caught up in the whole points battle.”

Now that door is closed, Farr has thrown open the shackles and is quite forthright in his appraisal for the remainder of the series.

“To be bluntly honest, I don’t care if I finished second or tenth now!”

“No-one remembers who finishes second.”

Farr now takes a more natural approach to the upcoming races.

“From now on they are just another race meeting that we are going out there to win!”

“We took that attitude into Toowoomba and we won, and we are taking that into every race from here on in.”

With the pressure of the chase lifted  I quizzed the driver of the #Q7 J&J if he will no longer be tempted to drop the elbows at any stage.

His response was short and sharp.

“I think you will find them up a lot higher now!”
