Walther breaks lap record

Gary Walther, driving his DRB Cobra in the Production Sports Car races at Queensland Raceway during the V8 Supercar meeting on the weekend, broke the old record several times, to establish the new record of 74.08 seconds.

Gary was competing in his first National Race meeting in his DRB Cobra, fitted with a Ford 6 litre Windsor V8 700 HP motor, qualified 5th from a full grid of Prod Sports cars.

Gary fell back to 8th place at the start of the first race, but recovered well to finish in 3rd place. A minor infringement however cost him 30 seconds and relegated Gary to 12th place on the grid for the next race.

The thundering Cobra was the focal point for the large crowd of spectators in the next race as it flashed past Porsche Cup cars down the straights, reaching almost 250 kph on the back straight, but ran out of laps to move further up and finished in 3rd place.

The bright yellow Cobra was again the most spectacular car in the last race with Gary moving up through the field, picking off the quick Porsche’s down the straights, but while overtaking a group of tail end cars was forced off the track with two wheels on the grass and lost several places. Not to be deterred, Gary quickly recovered to almost win this race, but ran out of laps when in 2nd place.

The whole Team were very impressed with Gary’s professional performance in his first major race meeting and Crew Chief Steve Brown was happy with the performance of the motor that he specially built for the DRB Cobra. Steve emphasised that providing top quality engine parts are used, together with the finest quality lubricants the result will be a top HP reliable motor.
