James & Billy morgan SPEEDWAY SEDANS JUNIOR SERIES |
 |
UPDATE - March 2009
On the 21st of march James and Billy Morgan both made the trip to blue ribbon raceway in Horsham for the first round of the auto-barn series.
James and Billy found themselves starting their first 10 car heat, right beside each other!
In the first corner James and Billy both struggled with the wettest track they had ever raced on and almost every competitor on the track was having the same difficulties. After James hit the wall a few times and Billy spun twice, they came away with 7th for James and 9th for Billy. |
The second and third heats were held under much better track conditions. In the second heat James and Billy started beside each other once again. James started out of 6th and came 7th, Billy came 8th.
The third heat was going to be a hard one as James and Billy were starting from the back of the pack, but they both showed awesome speed with Billy coming 4th and James 5th. it was some of the best racing they have had, with James and Billy both battling hard, without hitting each other, and both of them passed a lot of cars.
In the final Billy started out of 13th and James started out of 14th. The track was in mint condition, which they both enjoyed. From 14th James got up into 10th in the first corner but the yellow flag came out, which meant they had to start again. In the end Billy came 10th and James came 11th. They were both very proud of themselves, although both of them thought they could of done a bit better.
Their next race will be on the 18th of April at Horsham. |

UPDATE - January 2009
On Sunday the 11th of January, James and Billy Morgan raced at their home track, Premier Speedway, in the second annual Neville Pike Cup. On a very wet track, both boys competed in the same heat, with James getting 3rd and Billy 9th. The second round of heats finished with James getting 7th and Billy coming in 10th. James said “By the time the second round of heats came around the track was dry. It was good close racing.” |
The track in round three of the heats had a lot of moisture in it and James tried to run high but there was no drive up the top, so he had to go back to the bottom of the track. James started from the rear and made up 4 spots to get 7th and Billy started out of 5th and came 11th.
In the finals, James started in 11th position and he had made up three spots before making an error entering a corner. This error put him back into 11th and he ended the race in this position. Unfortunately, Billy didn’t make it into the finals but good work on your efforts in the heats.
On Wednesday, 14th of January, the boys made the trip to Timmis Speedway in Mildura for their Australian Title. There were 94 competitors from all around the country competing at the title. On Thursday, the boy’s cars passed scrutineering easily and then that evening went to the speedway for practice. There were 106 cars to get through so the boys were only given one practice run. James said, “The pits were very hectic.” On Friday, 16th of January, the boys started their heats. “The competition was very tough, there were 12 cars in a heat” explained James. On the first night, James came 8th and 10th in his heats. Billy came 9th his first heat and even after heavy contact with the wall in his second heat he came in 8th. On Saturday morning, after receiving a lot of damage from hitting the wall, the crew worked very hard to get Billy’s car back on the track. Luckily, Billy’s car was fixed and ready to race for the Saturday night heats. James came in 8th and 10th in his heats and Billy came in 11th and 7th in his. Unfortunately the boys did not make the C, B or A Main races but James said “It was a great experience and we would definitely do it again.” |
NOVEMBER 2008
“Brothers, James (14) and Billy (12) Morgan, have both just competed in their first races for the 2008/09 season. James raced on 8th & 9th of Nov and Billy raced on the 16th of Nov. James is now in his fifth year of racing and Billy is now is his second year of racing.”
Only James raced at Nyora and Drouin (VIC) on the weekend of the 8/9th as it was a long 6 hour trip from their home town of Warrnambool and they couldn't get both cars to the track. So Billy hung back while James raced at Nyora and Drouin.
About his heats, James said "it didnt go too well for me, and the final was called off due to rain", but in the end he ended up getting 11th.
Drouin on Sunday was much better in both heats and final for James, he started 6th in the final and ended up getting 8th. He said in his own words "I made a few errors which stuffed me up a bit, but overall the weekend went very well".
On Saturday Nov 15, the boys entered the Autobarn Warrnambool Car Show and Billy won the 'Best Presented Car' award which they are very proud of - So is QRI - So congratulations!
On
Sunday Nov 16, Billy had his first race at Premier Speedway, Warrnambool which is the boys home track. James didnt race because had to miss out on one just like Billy missed out at Nyora and Drouin. Billy came 3rd in his first heat race, but was unable to continue the next day because of a burnt clutch.
The boys next race is in two weeks time in Mount Gambier, South Australia for their 'Out and About Series' Both James and Billy will be competing.
We wish you all the best on your next races boys, and congratulations on a huge effort so far...Keep it up - We'll be watching you! - QRI |
